The English alphabet has 26 letters. Five of those letters are vowels (a, e, i, o, u) and 20 of those letters are consonants. The letter ‘Y’ is special. Sometimes is is a vowel (example: by) and sometimes it is a consonant (example: yes). Vowels are letters that give voice to a word. Consonants are letters which work with vowels to create words. The consonants are (b, c, d, f, g, h, j, k, l, m, n, p, q, r, s, t, v, w, x, z).
